Tech help for neighbors
Use with: build-website. Resume line when done: Ran a tech-help service for neighbors — published scope, fixed {n} household problems
Brief
Printers, wifi, phone settings, the TV remote situation. A page aimed at the neighbors who already ask you, saying what you can fix, what you will not touch, and how to reach you. The will-not-touch list is what lets a neighbor's adult children read the page and relax.
Personalize
- The fix list. Problems you have solved before: printer offline, wifi renamed, phone storage full, the TV input maze. Your own household counts as experience.
- The will-not-touch list. Passwords, banking, and buying things on anyone's account. You can sit next to a neighbor while they type their own password; you do not type it for them. Put the list on the page.
- The neighbors. The ones who already ask you or your parents. The page is written for them by name in your head.
- The price. Free, or a small flat visit price you set with your parents. Decide before the first visit, and say it on the page.
Milestones
- Page live on day one: fix list, will-not-touch list, contact.
- Both lists reviewed with a parent.
- Page shared by mid-week with the two or three neighbors who already ask.
- First visit done and logged: what was broken, what fixed it, how long it took.
- Final README that doubles as your cheat sheet of recurring fixes.
Done means
- Live URL responding; readable on a phone
- Honest-claims check passed: the fix list only contains problems you have solved
- Will-not-touch list on the page and followed on every visit: no passwords typed for anyone, no purchases made on anyone's account
- First visit or inquiry logged in SESSIONS.md, which has an entry per session
- Any payment agreed before the visit and handled in person
