Shoebox photo timeline

Brief

Somewhere in your house is a box of old photos nobody looks at because nobody can look at them. Scan them, put them in order, and publish the timeline. The captions are the hard part: you get them by sitting with relatives and asking who is in each picture, where it was, and roughly when. You will hear stories nobody planned to tell you. Some of them go in the captions.

Personalize

• The box. Ask a parent or grandparent where the old photos live, and get permission to scan and publish before you start.
• The identifiers. Name the two or three relatives who can put names and dates to faces, and book time with each of them.
• The cut. A shoebox might hold hundreds. Pick the 30 to 50 that tell the story, and say in the README how you chose.

Milestones

1. Five photos scanned and live at a URL, day one, no captions yet.
2. The full selection scanned at decent quality, filed in the repo with consistent names.
3. Captioning sessions done; who, where, and when recorded for each photo, with gaps marked honestly as unknown.
4. Photos ordered into a timeline with decade or event headings.
5. Styling pass: images large enough to see faces, captions beside them, fine on a phone.
6. The relatives who helped review it and correct you. Final README.

Done means

• Live URL responding; photos viewable on a phone
• At least 30 scanned photos in timeline order
• Every photo captioned, with unknowns marked rather than guessed
• Reviewer corrections recorded in the README
• At least 8 commits across at least 5 distinct days, authored by you
• SESSIONS.md has an entry per session, written by you
